Ho Ho How to Boost Your Gift Voucher Sales This December!

Sorry about the cheesy title - I couldn’t resist it.

Can you feel the holiday buzz in the air? 🎄✨

December is almost here, and if you’re like me, you’re ready to make the most of it—especially when it comes to gift vouchers!

When I was a Personal Stylist, gift vouchers were a large source of income for me—especially in December, when women stopped buying styling sessions for themselves, but I still wanted to make sales.

I used to create gift bags with a personalised card, shredded paper - all in my branding colours of course - and a cute shoe & handbag chocolate set. And yes I charged more for this option!

(I’ll never forget one year when I was driving around in the snow on the 21st of December, delivering gift bags. My mum came along with me because she was worried about me driving alone in those snowy conditions. Aww, thanks Mum!)

Seriously, gift vouchers are one of the easiest ways to bring in extra cash and attract new customers during the holiday rush, and they make the perfect gift for those last-minute shoppers (we all know one!).

That's why I always tell my clients not to underestimate the power of marketing gift vouchers and the results they can bring to your business.

So, how do you get more of those gift voucher sales this season? Let’s dive into some super simple ways to make your gift vouchers the gift people want to give this holiday season!

1. Make Your Gift Vouchers Irresistible

When you’re promoting gift vouchers, they need to feel like the perfect gift—and there’s no better time to make them feel extra special than during the holidays. So, let’s add a little magic, shall we?

Here’s how:

  • Add Extra Value: Consider offering a bonus when someone buys a voucher. For example, if they buy a £50 gift voucher, maybe you throw in an extra £5 or £10, just to sweeten the deal. People love getting more for their money!

  • Free Gift Wrapping: Who doesn’t love a beautifully wrapped gift? Offer gift wrapping (or cute digital wrapping for e-vouchers!) to make the gifting process super easy and festive.

  • Limited-Time Offers: Create urgency by offering a special deal for early holiday shoppers—like a discount on vouchers for a limited time, or bonus value if they buy before a certain date.

Tip: Highlight the countdown to Christmas with a little “Last Chance!” message or limited-time offer. This will get people moving and buying those vouchers!

2. Shout About It Everywhere

You’ve got an awesome product (your gift vouchers), so let’s make sure everyone knows it. You can’t just stick them on your website and hope for the best—no, no, we need to shout from the rooftops (in a friendly way, of course!).

Here’s where to shout:

  • Email Your List: Send a fun, festive email to your existing customers with an exclusive offer on gift vouchers. Use a catchy subject like, “Give the Gift of [Your Business] + Get an Extra Treat!” to get them clicking.

  • Social Media Love: Get creative with your posts—show off those beautiful vouchers in a post or story, and don’t forget to use fun holiday hashtags! Share how easy and thoughtful they are to give as gifts.

  • Website Banners: Make sure your website is geared up for the holidays, too! A bright and cheerful banner on your homepage saying, “The Perfect Gift is a Click Away” will catch people’s attention.

Tip: Make sure you include clear calls to action—like “Get Your Gift Voucher Now” or “Shop Holiday Gift Vouchers.” Keep it simple and easy for people to take action.

3. Get Your Customers Spreading the Word

Your loyal customers are your best advocates, so why not make it easy for them to spread the word about your gift vouchers? By offering a referral program, you can turn your existing customers into ambassadors for your business.

Here’s an idea to get you started:

“Refer a friend to buy a gift voucher, and get a discount on your next purchase when they make a purchase!”

Or, try: “Buy a gift voucher for a friend, and both of you get a little bonus!”

It’s a win-win situation—your current customers get a reward, and you gain new customers who are already familiar with your business (thanks to that glowing recommendation!). This is a simple and effective way to get more people talking about your gift vouchers without having to do all the heavy lifting yourself.

4. Offer Both Digital and Physical Options

We’re all about giving your customers options. Some people want a quick, digital voucher they can email to a friend or family member last-minute. Sooo many of the gift vouchers I sold when I was a Personal Stylist were bought by people (many men but not sure I’m meant to say that!!?) looking for a last-minute gift for their partner or mother.

Others want to give a physical, nicely wrapped voucher they can hand over in person.

By offering both, you’re covering all your bases!

  • Digital Vouchers: Make them easy to purchase and deliver—instant download or emailed right away. Perfect for those “Oh no, I forgot to buy a gift!” moments.

  • Physical Vouchers: If you offer physical vouchers, consider putting them in a cute, branded envelope or adding a little holiday flair to the packaging. It’ll make them feel more thoughtful and personal.

Bonus Tip: Consider offering an express option for last-minute physical vouchers, so customers can swing by and grab them if they’re in a pinch. Perfect for procrastinators (and we all know there are plenty of those!).

5. Make It Personal

We all love personalised gifts, right? So why not add a personal touch to your vouchers? You can allow customers to:

  • Write a custom message on their voucher (whether it's digital or physical) so it feels more thoughtful and unique.

  • Offer bundles with a product or service included to make the gift more complete. For example, if you’re a coach, pair a gift voucher with a free mini session or extra resources to make the gift extra special.

Personalisation Tip: The more your gift vouchers feel like a personalised experience rather than a generic “I didn’t know what to get you” gift, the more likely your customers will be to buy them!

6. Appeal to the Last-Minute Shoppers

Let’s be honest: there will always be people who put off their shopping until the very last minute. But lucky for you, that’s where gift vouchers shine!

Promote the fact that your vouchers are perfect for those who wait until the last minute. Highlight how easy it is to get one quickly, whether it’s by email or instant download. Make it clear that your gift vouchers are a stress-free solution to holiday gifting.

Tip: Run a little “Last-Minute Gift? No Problem!” campaign the week before Christmas to encourage those final shoppers to grab their vouchers without the stress.
